WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT SUNDAY'S

"The groves of redwoods that cover the hilltops of Oakland are a world away from the urban downtown. Hug a tree the size of a car, and then hike up and down through a maze of ferns and pine needles.  Summer and Fall concert sieries take place each year, featuring many local gorups.  This park is unlike any other existing inside a city's boundaries."

Dear Neighbor,

We are very excited by this year's line-up for our Fourth Annual Sundays in the Redwoods Free Concert Series. Our dream to provide FREE, live, quality concerts for Oakland residents and families keeps expanding even in these tough economic times.  We've talked to many who are making this a neighborhood or family tradition, bringing picnics to enjoy the day in the park together. Please help us spread the word by forwarding this email to family, friends, and neighbors.

Last year nearly 10,000 attended our four free concerts.  We expect a full house at our last concert in the series  featuring our "home girl," Ledisi.  We feature both current and rising young stars at each concert. As our attendance grows, our fundraising and ability to attract top entertainment grow also.

We are struck each year how many Oaklanders tell us they have never visited this gorgeous location in the Oakland redwoods before.  We are happy that these concerts bring very diverse populations together for uniquely Oakland community building.

Each weekend represents a different slice of Oakland's rich musical diversity.  Tickets to concerts for many of these artists featured in this series have recently ranged from $20-$50. We appreciate the generous contributions that  make the concerts possible and as usual will be passing the hat.  Think of this as Oakland's answer to Stern Grove... with seats, without fog, and with a great  bay view !

Many of us bring picnic dinners or stop by the Montclair Farmers Market before the concert,  but this year we have added a few food vendors. We have some shade cover for the audience but bring hats and sunscreen. We will have children's activities in the back of the theater for our younger listeners who might become restless.  These concerts are a very good way to introduce children to live music.

The gates open at 1:30 pm, seating is open on a first come basis.  Performances generally start at 2 pm.  If you come, please come by and visit our booth which will have information on City services and community programs
.
