RESIDENTS ON the Piedmont side of Montclair had much to celebrate last Sunday.

After nearly 20 years of fighting red tape, raising funds and more, the neighbors can now enjoy streets and views free of utility lines and poles -- and a new park.

Just as hills resident Chuck Harrison has taken the lead in bringing drop-off mail boxes to Montclair, Korki and Roger Brett have shown "that perseverance can pay off," said Roger, about the area's undergrounding and beautification achievements.

Neighbors dedicated a small park to the Bretts on May 16 to honor the couple.

We say "thanks" to park organizers -- including Helen Danhakl -- as well as the Bretts and both former District 4 City Councilman Dick Spees and current City Councilwoman Jean Quan for their efforts to keep the hills green.
